Travestis logran que Policía boliviana les reconozca identidad física

Travestis y transexuales en Bolivia suscribieron un acuerdo con la Policía para que en la fotografía que aparece en sus cédulas de identidad se les permita mantener el rostro físico que eligieron, lo que consideran como un paso en contra de la discriminación sexual.
El entendimiento fue tramitado entre la estatal Defensoría del Pueblo y la Dirección de Identificación de la Policía -entidad encargada de dotar a todos los bolivianos de cédulas de identidad- dijo a la AFP Alberto Moscoso, dirigente de la organización Adesproc, promotora de los derechos de la comunidad gay y lésbica de Bolivia.
'Esto es un gran avance para este grupo poblacional, principalmente travestis y transexuales, porque todo el tiempo estaban discriminados, a partir de que su imagen no concuerda con su nombre', afirmó Moscoso, líder de la Asociación Civil de Desarrollo Social y Promoción Cultural (Adesproc).

The failure of Lima-based Doe Run Peru to restart operations at its polymetallic smelter in La Oroya by the July 27 deadline can be sanctioned with a fine but the government cannot close down the facility, a company spokesperson told BNamericas.

"Current legislation does not permit the closure of the complex if [the company] does not restart operations by the date established by law," the spokesperson said, adding: "There could be a fine but not the automatic closure of the complex."

Operations at the La Oroya smelter were stopped last year when Doe Run Peru ran into financial difficulties as a result of the global financial crisis.

The company was to restart operations in January and then in April, but failed to do so. The government previously threatened to permanently shut down the facility if Doe Run Peru did not restart operations by the deadline.

On Monday (Jul 26), Doe Run Peru announced that it would not restart operations until after July 27 as the company is still trying to reach an agreement with creditors.

Car Rental

Several car rental companies operate in Lima, Peru. To name a few, and only the ones known to operate in the United States, you can find Budget, Hertz and Dollar. The pickup and drop-off locations is the International Airport Jorge Chavez, but I am sure companies like Hertz will accommodate delivering the car to your hotel as they are located in touristic Miraflores and one thing about Peru  is that services are very accommodating to tourist and travelers.

All cars rented in Lima by these international companies come with limited mileage. Make sure you have car insurance covering all accidents before driving out of the car lot, your chances of having an accident, even a small one, are a bit higher in the hectic traffic of Lima. Remember to to ask for a car with automatic transmission if you require one, the most common kind of auto transmission in Peru is manual so make sure you get what you need. YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - Vicky Pelaez met her husband, Juan Lazaro - or so he called himself - some 30 years ago in her native Peru. She was a gutsy TV reporter, he a talented photographer and a karate black belt. "To her, he was a hunk," a friend says.

Soon, the two were married and living in a leafy New York suburb, raising a young son along with Vicky's older one, proudly watching him develop into a talented pianist. And now, three decades later, with the family suddenly torn asunder, her lawyer says she likely never even knew Juan's real name: Mikhail Vasenkov.

It's one of the more tantalizing mysteries to emerge from the spy saga that has entranced the world over the past 12 days: Could a wife be in the dark even as to her husband's very name?

And the broader question: Was Pelaez, deported Thursday in a spy swap along with her husband, an enthusiastic secret agent - who like him, was willing to put her loyalty to Moscow over that of her children? Or was she a wife betrayed?

At the end of the 2009 academic year in December a number of the sponsored children successfully completed their secondary education.

A few went to Lima and found jobs there whilst others have gone on to further education courses, some in our Training Centre, which is now known as The Margery Gulliver Institute.  At least one has started on a university course.

Five girls graduated from the dressmaking workshop in December and enjoyed a graduation ceremony when they received their diplomas.  (See our picture gallery)

All the children and their siblings enjoyed the Christmas parties just before Christmas, and in February about 100 of them went to the annual camp for a week.

At camp, which is held in a conference centre in Chupaca, the children enjoyed games and handicrafts and Bible teaching. It was a real treat for them to be able to sleep in a bed of their own in clean sheets, and have three good meals a day, as well as the fun of being with other children and forgetting about the pressures of school and household chores. On Wednesday afternoon, the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) Preparatory Committee (PrepCom) reopened its doors to civil society representatives, just in time for a quick discussion about other possible elements for an ATT. Topics covered included treaty implementation, international cooperation and assistance, transparency and reporting, and compliance and enforcement. While not much new was added to the discussion, there were some interesting comments on victim assistance and child soldiers, and some trouble areas were teased out. Toward the end of the meeting, the US delegate expressed regret that some of the interventions highlighted “essential elements� that have little chance for success. He encouraged other delegations to “think carefully� about elements that will lead to success rather than failure in negotiations.
